President Buhari Requests A Supplementary ₦164 Billion From NASS For 2019 Elections

President Muhammadu Buhari has written the National Assembly, requesting for an approval of a supplementary budget/virement of ₦164 billion to fund the 2019 general and presidential elections.

The President said that the ₦164 billion requested as supplementary is to enable the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC to commence preparation for the polls.

According to the letter which was read by Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, President Buhari explained that the total amount required for the 2019 election is ₦242 billion.

In the letter which was read at plenary today, President Buhari has asked the National Assembly to remove a total of ₦228 billion as reinstatement from the ‘ padded ‘ ₦578 billion in the 2018 budget to fund critical projects.

According to the President, the ₦228 billion is for “relocating some of the funds appropriated for the new projects which were inserted into the 2018 budget proposal totally ₦578 billion to cover the sum of ₦228 billion required.”
