A group of bandits launched a ruthless attack in Niger State recently, killing no fewer than 13 individuals who were reportedly working on their farms.

Naija News reports that the assault happened in the Ijuwa outskirts of the Alawa community within the state’s Shiroro Local Government Area (LGA).

The LGA Chairman, Akilu Isyaku, confirmed the deaths of the 13 farmers during an interview with a local radio station in Minna on Wednesday.

He reported that nine of the victims were shot dead, while four others lost their lives at a separate location on the same day.

A resident who spoke to Channels Television about the incident indicated that the bandits targeted the community due to suspicions that its members were providing information to security forces regarding the movements of the bandits.

In response to this heinous act, Niger State Deputy Governor, Yakubu Garba, condemned the attack as both inhumane and cruel.

He expressed his condolences to the bereaved families, community members, and the broader population of Shiroro LGA in a statement regarding this unfortunate event.

This assault comes at a time when farmers are typically engaged in their agricultural activities.

Reports suggest that numerous farmers, even those far from the attack site, have abandoned their fields out of fear of further violence.
