Kenneth Omeruo Joins CFR Cluj, Waldrum Backs Super Falcons For WAFCON Glory

Super Eagles defender, Kenneth Omeruo, has been unveiled by Romanian top-flight club CFR Cluj ahead of the 2025-2026 season.

Kenneth Omeruo joins the eight-time Liga I champions on a free transfer after parting ways with Turkish side Kasimpasa earlier in the year.

Omeruo, 31, had been linked with moves to clubs in Qatar and Major League Soccer (MLS) following his February contract termination, but has opted to continue his career in Europe.

Omeruo has already begun training with his new teammates and is expected to make his debut in the Romanian Super Cup against FCSB on Saturday, July 5.

Omeruo, known for his versatility and leadership at the back, brings vast experience to Cluj’s defence, having previously featured for clubs in Spain, England, Turkey, and the Nigerian national team.

Meanwhile, former Super Falcons head coach Randy Waldrum has tipped Nigeria to reclaim the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title in Morocco next month. The nine-time champions are among the 12 nations vying for continental supremacy.

Waldrum, who led the team to a fourth-place finish in the last edition also hosted by Morocco, expressed confidence in the squad’s ability to win a record-extending 10th title.

“I think the players are good enough on their own that they can win it,” Waldrum told Eagles Tracker. “There’s enough talent there based off what was built from the World Cup and the Olympics. Those players will find a way to get the result because they’re hungry to go regain the title.”

Waldrum’s former assistant, Justine Madugu, now heads the team and has included 13 players from the 2022 squad in his selection, aiming to build on their international experience.

The 2024 WAFCON kicks off in July with Nigeria looking to cement their dominance in African women’s football.
