Kano State Governor Honours Deceased 22 Kano Athletes, Gets Donation From Remi Tinubu

Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Yusuf has renamed Kano State Sports Institute and Kano State Sports Commission in honour of the 22 Kano athletes who lost their lives in a road accident while returning from the 22nd National Sports Festival in Abeokuta in May.
The Kano State Sports Institute will now be known as the Kano State 22 Athletes Sports Institute, while Kano State Sports Commission will now be called Kano State 22 Athletes Sports Commission.
The governor made this announcement after receiving a 110 million naira donation from the First Lady, Remi Tinubu. The said amount is for the families of the deceased.
Naija News reported that the 22 athletes died after a vehicle conveying them from Ogun state to Kano crashed near Gadar Yankifi along the Kaduna-Kano expressway on Saturday, May 30. The few who survived the accident are still responding to treatment in hospitals across the state.
“These young heroes made Kano proud. They should be remembered forever. Their commitment and sacrifice to the state will not be forgotten,” the governor said.
The donation from the First Lady of Nigeria was presented to the governor by a team of delegates led by Hajiya Laila Barau Jibrin, wife of the Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin.
“This is not the first time that Her Excellency, the First Lady Remi Tinubu, donated to Kano State”, the governor said.
“Her Excellency, the First Lady Remi Bola Ahmad Tinubu, in the past donated ₦200m to 250 elderly women in Kano.”
