Diogo Jota: Liverpool, Atlético Madrid, EPL, Arsenal, UEFA, Others Mourn

Liverpool have urged the public to respect the privacy of Diogo Jota’s family and friends, as they mourn the sudden demise of the Portuguese footballer.
The reigning Premier League champions, Liverpool, said they are devastated by the demise of Diogo Jota, who joined the club from Wolves in 2020 for a transfer fee worth €44.70 million.
Naija News reports that Diogo Jota, alongside his younger brother, Andre, died in a car accident earlier today, July 3, in Spain. The 28-year-old Portugal international left behind a newly wedded wife and three toddlers.
“Liverpool Football Club are devastated by the tragic passing of Diogo Jota”, the Premier League giants said.
“The club have been informed that the 28-year-old has passed away following a road traffic accident in Spain along with his brother, Andre.
Liverpool FC will be making no further comment at this time and requests the privacy of Diogo and Andre’s family, friends, teammates and club staff is respected as they try to come to terms with an unimaginable loss.
“We will continue to provide them with our full support.”
Also, Jota’s former club, Atlético Madrid said they are deeply shocked over the demise of the Portuguese striker who played briefly at the club between 2016 and 2017.
“Atlético de Madrid is deeply shocked by the tragic news of the passing of Diogo Jota, a former player of our club, and his brother André”, the club’s statement reads.
“We send our most sincere condolences to their family and loved ones.
“Rest in peace.”
Also, Liverpool’s rivals in the Premier League, Arsenal have reacted to the demise of Diogo Jota alongside their London neighbours, Chelsea.
“The thoughts of everyone at Arsenal are with Diogo’s family, friends and all associated with Liverpool Football Club”, Arsenal shared on 𝕏.
“Rest in peace, Diogo.”
Chelsea wrote: “Everyone at Chelsea FC is devastated to learn of the tragic passing of Diogo Jota and his brother, Andre.
“Our thoughts go out to their family, friends and all at Liverpool FC at this incredibly difficult time.”
English Premier League, the UEFA and a host of other football bodies have not been left out in mourning Jota.
The EPL wrote: “Everyone at the Premier League is shocked and devastated to learn of the tragic passing of Diogo Jota and his brother Andre. Our sincerest condolences go to Diogo’s family, friends, Liverpool FC, and all their supporters at this heartbreaking time. Football has lost a champion who will be forever missed. We will continue to support our friends and colleagues at the club.”
A statement from Manchester City reads: “Everyone at Manchester City is shocked and saddened to learn about the devastating news regarding the passing of Diogo Jota.
“We send our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends and everyone at Liverpool Football Club at this difficult time.
“Rest in peace, Diogo.”
Tottenham Hotspur wrote: “Everyone at Tottenham Hotspur is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Diogo Jota.
“Our thoughts and condolences are with his family, friends and all at Liverpool Football Club at this incredibly difficult time.”
While UEFA shared on 𝕏: “On behalf of the European football community, we are deeply saddened to learn of the tragic passing of Diogo Jota, Portugal international and Liverpool FC forward, along with his brother André Silva.
“Our thoughts are with their family, friends, teammates and all those affected by this heartbreaking loss.”
