Ashleigh Plumptre Begs Nigerians To Keep Supporting Super Falcons

Super Falcons defender, Ashleigh Plumptre has urged football enthusiasts in Nigeria to support the team in the ongoing 2024 WAFCON.
Ashleigh Plumptre played a prominent role in the Super Falcons’ opening game at the tournament. He ensured Nigeria beat Tunisia 3-0 without conceding a goal.
First-half goals from Asisat Oshoala and Rinsola Babajide, alongside a second-half strike from Chinwendu Ihezuo, sealed the win for Nigeria.
Despite scoring three goals and conceding none, some football critics argued that the Super Falcons were too wasteful in front goal.
In her reaction, Ashleigh Plumptre, 27, who is currently playing for a Saudi Pro League women’s club, Al Ittihad, argued that the Super Falcons had a good start to the competition.
“So my message to Nigerians is to keep supporting us. We feel the love and we’ll do as much as we can to bring success to the team. I feel really happy,” the former Leicester City defender said.
“Obviously, it’s the first game of the tournament, so there’s a lot of nerves, you know, going into the first game, nerves and excitement, but to come out with three goals and a clean sheet, I think it’s a nice way to start the tournament.”
The Super Falcons will continue their campaign to win their record-extending 10th WAFCON title on Thursday, July. They are scheduled to face Botswana who recorded a 1-0 defeat in their opening game against Algeria.
“We will take this as a good stepping stone into the next game”, Ashleigh Plumptre said. “Obviously, all of us have seen what we did well, but what we need to improve on going into the next game is because I think attacking-wise and defensively, we probably could have been a little bit better in terms of our standards, but for sure, we’re happy with the three points.”
Note that Ashleigh Plumptre has made 18 appearances for the Super Falcons since she made her international debut in 2021.
“I’m just so grateful for all the support since I joined the team,” she said. “Obviously, I’ve been on the team for about four years now, and I was definitely welcomed with open arms when I first joined the team, and even now, I feel the love from all Nigerian fans.”
