Super Falcons' Omorinsola Babajide Joins AS Roma, Arsenal Eye Eberechi Eze After Gyökeres Deal

Super Falcons forward, Omorinsola Babajide, has officially sealed a move to Italian giants AS Roma Women, marking a fresh chapter in her career.

The club confirmed the signing on its website, revealing that Omorinsola Babajide has signed a two-year deal.

Babajide joins the Serie A Femminile side on a free transfer after parting ways with Spanish outfit UD Tenerife in May, following the end of her contract.

The 26-year-old, known for her pace and versatility in attack, will don the No. 30 jersey for the Giallorosse.

She becomes the second Nigerian at the club, linking up with compatriot Shukurat Oladipo. However, she won’t be joining the squad immediately as she is currently representing Nigeria at the ongoing 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

Meanwhile, over in England, Arsenal are shifting their transfer focus after wrapping up a high-profile deal for Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyökeres.

Transfer insider Ben Jacobs reports that the Gunners have now intensified talks with Crystal Palace over a potential move for England international, Eberechi Eze.

Discussions are expected to continue this week, with Arsenal considering a formal approach to assess the feasibility of a transfer that avoids triggering Eze’s full release clause.

Gyökeres’ move to the Emirates was finalised on Sunday, with Arsenal agreeing to an initial £55 million fee, plus an additional £8.6 million in performance-based add-ons.

The Swedish forward has already agreed on personal terms on a five-year deal and is scheduled for a medical in the coming days.

With Gyökeres set to bolster the frontline, Mikel Arteta’s attention has turned to creativity in midfield, and Eze appears to be top of the list.

The 26-year-old had a standout season with Palace and could become a vital piece in Arteta’s evolving tactical puzzle.
