President Bola Tinubu has written to the House of Representatives, seeking their approval to amend the 2025-2026 Federal Government External Borrowing Plan to address financial shortfalls.
The request by President Tinubu was contained in a letter signed by Finance Minister, Wale Edun and read by Speaker of the House, Abbas Tajudeen, during plenary on Wednesday.
Naija News reports that the letter indicates an additional $ 47 million is needed for the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway project, which has risen from $ 700 million to $ 747 million.
Also, the $300 million Nigeria Universal Communication Access Project aims to provide mobile communication access to over 21 million people across 4,834 unconnected communities, particularly in remote and underserved areas, through the deployment of 7,000 telecommunication towers.
It would be recalled that the Federal Government had, about two weeks ago, announced that it had secured a $747 million loan to fund the first phase of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project.

Bauchi State Governor and Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party Governors Forum, Bala Mohammed, has criticized the decision of some members who decided to quit the party and join the coalition-led African Democratic Congress (ADC).
He said leaving the PDP for the ADC is a political miscalculation and an anomaly.
Governor Mohammed described such a move to quit the PDP with its structures and legacy for the ADC-coalition without offices as a malady.
Naija News reports that the Bauchi Governor made the submission on Wednesday while speaking at the Consultative Conference of PDP Founding Fathers and Stakeholders in Abuja, themed “Reclaiming Our Legacy, Renewing Our Collective Vision.”
He, however, told the defectors, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Senate President David Mark and others who left PDP for ADC, that they still have the opportunity to retrace their steps and return to the party.
The Bauchi State Governor, however, stated that the PDP would not allow any of its members to be in two places at the same time.
He charged that it is either the politicians remain committed to the PDP or they quit the party altogether, noting that the PDP won’t allow the indiscipline of remaining in the party and working for the coalition.
3. Peter Obi: Where Do You Get The Power To Bar A Nigerian Citizen From Visiting A State? – Lawmakers Challenge Okpebholo
The South East Senate Caucus has warned that the statement by the Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, asking former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to seek security clearance before visiting the state is dangerous and unconstitutional.
Speaking via a statement issued by the caucus chairman, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe (APGA, Abia South), the lawmakers said Okpebholo’s restriction directly challenges Nigeria’s unity and is a brazen attack on the constitution.
He warned that Nigeria remains a constitutional democracy where the rights of citizens, including freedom of movement and association, are protected by law, and no governor has the authority to override these rights.
Senator Abaribe, through his media adviser Uchenna Awom, insisted that Okpebolo’s actions were illegal and could fuel divisions and threaten Nigeria’s democratic stability.

4. NNPCL Slashes Petrol Price Again
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has reduced the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), popularly known as fuel or petrol to ₦890 per litre, marking the second downward review in less than one week.
The latest development was observed across multiple NNPCL retail outlets in Abuja on Wednesday, July 23.
Naija News reports that the price slash reflects a ₦5 per litre drop from the previous ₦895 pump price.
Daily Post claimed to have observed filling stations along Kubwa Expressway, Gwarimpa, Wuse Zone 4, and other major parts of the Federal Capital Territory adjusted their pump meters on Wednesday morning to reflect the new pricing.
The move comes barely a week after the state-owned oil company first introduced a retail price reduction for petrol, an indication that the company may be responding to recent developments in the local supply and distribution value chain.
While NNPCL stations now sell at ₦890 per litre, major retailers linked to the Dangote Petroleum Refinery, including AP Ardova, Optima, MRS, and Bovas, were seen dispensing fuel at a slightly cheaper rate of ₦885 per litre.
Industry observers say the pricing gap may be linked to supply source advantages and efficiency in distribution from the newly operational Dangote Refinery.
