One of the most iconic figures in professional wrestling history, Hulk Hogan, has died at the age of 71.

The WWE confirmed Hulk Hogan’s death in a statement on Thursday, July 24, describing him as “one of pop culture’s most recognisable figures” who played a key role in helping WWE, then known as WWF, achieve global recognition in the 1980s.

Born Terry Gene Bollea in Augusta, Georgia, Hogan rose to fame during the 1980s wrestling boom, becoming the face of the WWF and the driving force behind the phenomenon known as “Hulkamania.”

Known for his trademark red-and-yellow attire, bandana, and catchphrases, Hogan headlined numerous WrestleMania events and helped expand wrestling’s appeal to mainstream audiences.

Emergency services were called to Hogan’s Clearwater, Florida, home on Thursday morning following a report of cardiac arrest, according to TMZ. He was transported by stretcher into an ambulance. The exact cause of death has not been disclosed.

Hogan had two children, Brooke and Nick, with his first wife, Linda. The couple divorced in 2007. He later married Jennifer McDaniel in 2010, with the marriage ending in 2022. Hogan married Sky Daily in 2023.

His health had reportedly been a concern in recent weeks, though his wife, Sky, had previously denied rumours of a critical condition, saying Hogan was recovering from a neck procedure and that his heart was “strong.”

In July 2024, Hogan made a public appearance at the Republican National Convention in support of Donald Trump’s presidential campaign. His final appearance on WWE programming was during the Netflix debut of Monday Night Raw on January 6, 2025.
