Four Super Falcons Stars Named In WAFCON 2024 Best XI

Four standout players from Nigeria’s Super Falcons, Chiamaka Nnadozie, Michelle Alozie, Esther Okoronkwo, and Rasheedat Ajibade, have been named in the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) Best XI.
Naija News reports that the aforementioned players helped the Super Falcons win their record-extending 10th WAFCON title after defeating Morocco 3-2, from two goals down, in the final on Saturday, July 26.
Note that the 2024 WAFCON team of the tournament, released by the Technical Study Group of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), recognises the top performers across all participating teams in the just-concluded competition.
Goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie was a rock between the sticks for Nigeria, keeping four clean sheets in six matches and conceding only two goals from open play, both in the hard-fought final against hosts Morocco.
Her consistency and commanding presence earned her the award for Best Goalkeeper of the Tournament.
On the defensive flank, Michelle Alozie was named the best right-back of the competition. The Houston Dash defender played a pivotal role in five of Nigeria’s six matches, combining defensive grit with forward thrust to keep opponents in check.
Esther Okoronkwo, the winger who plays for AFC Toronto, lit up the tournament with her dazzling displays. She contributed two goals and six assists and was named Woman of the Match on two occasions.
Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade capped off a stellar tournament by being named the Most Valuable Player (MVP).
The Atletico Madrid forward was the heartbeat of the Nigerian midfield, tallying one goal and two assists while earning three Woman of the Match awards. Her leadership and relentless energy proved crucial in Nigeria’s journey to the final.
