‘When It Was 2-0, I Got Offended And Restless’ – Tinubu Tells Super Falcons

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday shared a humorous moment about how tense the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) final was, revealing that even First Lady Senator, Oluremi Tinubu, had to leave the kitchen to watch the Super Falcons battle to victory.
Speaking during a reception at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, to honour the 10-time African champions, Tinubu admitted he initially avoided watching the match due to its intensity.
“Honestly, I didn’t want to watch the match. I didn’t want to have high blood pressure,” the President said, adding, “But they turned on the television. When it was 2-0, I got offended and restless.”
Tinubu humorously recounted how the First Lady, who usually does not watch football, joined millions of Nigerians in cheering for the Falcons.
“You almost made me angrier because your mother, the First Lady, was in the kitchen, nearly abandoning my dinner. She doesn’t watch football, except when the girls are playing. And at the final whistle, it was joy all over the country,” he said.
The President praised the Falcons for their resilience and unity, describing the victory as a source of inspiration for the nation.
“You gave us joy, not heartbreak. You inspired millions, especially young girls, who now know that their dreams are valid. This triumph is a victory of hope, courage, and national pride,” he told the players and technical crew.
