EFCC Detain Former Sokoto Governor, Tambuwal

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is currently grilling the immediate past Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal.
According to New Telegraph, Senator Tambuwal is currently at the anti-graft agency’s corporate headquarters in Abuja.
It was gathered that Tambuwal is being held over alleged fraudulent cash withdrawals to the tune of ₦189 billion.
The withdrawals are in flagrant violation of the Money Laundering (Prevention & Prohibition) Act, 2022.
The governor arrived at the EFCC’s Headquarters around 11:30 am and faced interrogators on the alleged financial crime.
EFCC’s Spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, declined comment on the matter.
Meanwhile, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of turning the EFCC into a political weapon against opposition politicians.
In a statement on Monday, the ADC’s National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, alleged that the EFCC’s recent actions, including reopening old cases and summoning opposition members, were politically motivated.
“The EFCC was created to be a fearless defender of the Nigerian people’s trust, applying the law evenly to all, friend or foe, ruling party or opposition. Today, that vision appears to have been compromised,” Abdullahi said.
The ADC claimed that the anti-graft agency had abandoned impartiality and now functioned like “a department of the APC, deployed to fight government critics and opposition figures.”
It also accused the EFCC of dropping investigations involving APC allies while relentlessly pursuing opposition leaders.
“Since a certain former governor defected to the APC with his state’s entire political machinery, the EFCC’s investigations into his administration have vanished from public view. Not a question has been asked. Not a document leaked. Not a single update. In today’s Nigeria, one’s guilt or innocence appears to depend on party membership, not evidence,” Abdullahi said.
