FG Announces Death Of Nigeria’s Consul General In Cameroon

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed the death of Ambassador Taofik Obasanjo Coker, Nigeria’s Consul General in Buea, Republic of Cameroon.
Naija News reports that the diplomat, aged 59, died on Saturday, August 16, after a brief illness.
This was revealed in a statement by the Spokesperson, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa.
Ambassador Coker had served Nigeria in different parts of the world before his appointment in Cameroon.
He worked in the country’s diplomatic missions in Conakry, Guinea, and Shanghai, China, where he represented Nigeria in various capacities.
The Ministry described his death as a huge loss to Nigeria’s diplomatic circle and extended condolences to his family, colleagues, and friends, while praying for the peaceful rest of his soul.
In other news, Lagos State has recorded the death of another female councillor, Honourable Zainab Adeshewa Shotayo.
Naija News reports that Shotayo represented Ward C3 in Odiolowo-Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area in Ilupeju area of the state.
According to multiple sources, Shotayo died on Monday, 18 August 2025, following a brief illness.
Her death comes just days after the passing of Hon. Oluwakemi Rufai, who served as councillor for Ward C1 in Ibeji Lekki Local Government.
Both women were the only elected female councillors in their respective councils.
The two councillors were elected on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress and had been inaugurated roughly three weeks ago.
