Salah Makes History With Third PFA Player Of The Year Award, Rogers Named Young Player Of The Year

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has written his name into Premier League history after being crowned the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) men’s Player of the Year for 2025, becoming the first player to win it three times.
The Egyptian forward, 33, was at the heart of Liverpool’s title-winning campaign last season, finishing as the league’s top scorer with 29 goals and adding 18 assists. His brilliance also earned him the Premier League Player of the Season and the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year awards.
Reflecting on his journey from Nagrig to global stardom, Salah admitted his early dreams were modest.
“Of course, I wanted to be a football player and I wanted to be famous and provide for my family, but you don’t think about the big stuff when you are still in Egypt. When you grow, you start to see things differently, and you start to have ambition, and you start to see the bigger picture,” he said.
Salah beat off competition from Liverpool teammate Alexis Mac Allister, Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes, Newcastle striker Alexander Isak, Chelsea’s Cole Palmer, and Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice.
Meanwhile, Aston Villa midfielder Morgan Rogers was named PFA Young Player of the Year. The 23-year-old joined Villa from Middlesbrough in February 2024 and flourished under Unai Emery, scoring 14 goals in 54 appearances as the club secured sixth place in the league and deep runs in Europe and the FA Cup.
Rogers, who also broke into the England senior squad last year, said he hopes to follow in the footsteps of legends like Steven Gerrard and Wayne Rooney.
“Later down the line, I want to be one of those incredible players people speak about, so to do that I have to do what they did and what they followed after. It’s a nice recognition but there’s more to win and I can’t wait,” he told BBC Sport.
Elsewhere, James Trafford was recognised as the Championship Player of the Year after keeping 29 clean sheets with Burnley, while Richard Kone (League One) and Michael Cheek (League Two) claimed awards in the lower divisions.
Former England manager Gareth Southgate received the PFA Merit Award for his eight-year spell in charge of the national team, where he led the Three Lions to two European Championship finals and a World Cup semi-final.
The PFA Team of the Year was dominated by Liverpool and Arsenal players, with Salah, Virgil van Dijk, Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch representing the champions, while Rice, William Saliba and Gabriel made the cut for the Gunners. Nottingham Forest’s Chris Wood and goalkeeper Matz Sels were surprise inclusions, joined by Newcastle’s Isak and Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez.
