Number Of Senate, House Of Reps Seats Occupied By APC, PDP, NNPP, APGA, Labour Party After Bye-elections

The quest among political parties in Nigeria to dominate the political landscape is a recurring point they all strive to achieve.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) is the current ruling party at the national level and has not hidden its desire to expand its influence in the 10th National Assembly, where it also holds the majority of legislators.
Based on official results declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) after the conduct of the August 16 bye-elections across the country, the APC has again expanded its influence and currently has 71 members in the Senate.
Of the 16 federal constituencies that went to the polls across 12 states, the ruling party secured 12.
The APC has also benefited from a series of defections by lawmakers from opposition parties after the conduct of the 2023 elections.
Naija News reports that the 71 is just one lawmaker short of the 72 required to have an absolute two-thirds majority in the Senate, which comprises 109 Senators.
The composition of the Senate currently stands as follows: APC with 71 seats, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) – 28 seats; Labour Party – 5 seats; Social Democratic Party (SDP) – 2 seats; All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) – 2 seats; and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) – 1 seat.
House Of Representatives
The APC has maintained a commanding lead in the House of Representatives and also extended its dominance with the outcome of the August 16 bye-elections.
From the 178 members it started with at the inauguration of the 10th Assembly in June 2023, the APC has grown to 205 members, thanks largely to an unrelenting gale of defections from opposition parties.
According to Business Day, the PDP, which started the 10th House of Representatives with 113 seats, has now been reduced to a paltry 37, no thanks to the gale of defections it has suffered.
The NNPP, which entered the chamber with 19 members, has slipped to 16.
