Photos: INEC Presents Certificates Of Return To Winners Of Bye-Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Thursday, presented certificates of return to winners of the August 16 bye-elections across the country.
INEC explained that the certificates were presented in compliance with constitutional requirements, which mandated that winners must be issued the certificates of return within 14 days of being declared victorious by a returning officer.
In line with this provision, the National Commissioner overseeing each relevant geopolitical zone today presented Certificates of Return to seven (7) candidates who emerged victorious in the elections.
“Following the conclusion of the bye-elections held on August 16, 2025, and in accordance with Section 71(1) of the Electoral Act, sealed Certificates of Return in a prescribed form shall be issued within 14 days to every candidate returned by the Returning Officer.
These include two (2) Senatorial Districts – Anambra South and Edo Central as well as five (5) Federal Constituencies – one each in the states of Edo, Jigawa, Kaduna, Ogun, and Oyo,” the statement read.

Meanwhile, a chieftain of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), Buba Galadima, has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of violating the constitution and conducting illegal by-elections.
Naija News reports that INEC, last Saturday, conducted by-elections across the country to fill various vacant political positions.
Speaking on Monday during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Galadima accused INEC of violating a section of the Constitution which stipulates that the commission is under an obligation to conduct a by-election within three months whenever a vacancy occurs.
