The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has stated that no country is without security issues and Nigerians should be grateful for the progress being made in the fight against insecurity in the country.

Naija News reports that General Musa made the remark on Thursday while fielding questions on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme.

According to him, the Nigerian Armed Forces have made significant strides, citing the arrest of the son of the Boko Haram founder as well as Ansaru commanders.

General Musa added that insecurity cannot be eradicated overnight, emphasising that no country in the world is entirely free from security challenges.

He said, “I think we should be very grateful that things are really picking up. I don’t think there’s any country that has 100% peace.

“Sixteen years, we’ve been like this; it’s not something, within two years, that we will be able to stop. But I can tell you, we’ve made giant strides. We just mentioned the Ansaru commanders that were arrested. This is one of the most significant arrests that have been made; getting the two of them shows how detailed the planning was.”

In other news, four security personnel, including a soldier, a mobile police officer and two members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, have been killed in a Boko Haram attack on farmers at Dalori Gari community, about 12 kilometres from Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

Naija News reports that the incident occurred on Monday morning while troops were providing cover for farmers heading to their farmlands.

According to community and security sources, the attackers, suspected to be Boko Haram terrorists, stormed the area on motorcycles before trekking some distance to intercept the farmers.

Sources further revealed that the insurgents abducted an unconfirmed number of farmers, including women and young girls, during the attack.

Although there has been no official statement on the number of casualties, it was gathered that some farmers sustained injuries while fleeing, which led to their capture by the terrorists.
