ADC Chairman, Nafiu Bala Denies Resignation Reports

The factional chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Nafiu Bala, has dismissed reports of his resignation, describing a letter purportedly linked to him as a fake and fraudulent creation by desperate political actors.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Director of Media and Public Affairs in the Office of the National Chairman, Dr Christopher Okechukwu, explained that the document dated May 18, 2025, neither carried Bala’s signature nor the official stamp of the ADC.
“The document was not authored or signed by Nafiu Bala and does not have the official stamp of the ADC in it,” Okechukwu said.
The statement stressed that Bala has not vacated his position and remains the constitutionally recognised leader of the party.
“The National Leadership of the African Democratic Congress under the legitimate and constitutionally recognised Acting National Chairman, Nafiu Bala, categorically denies the existence of any legitimate resignation letter from him,” Okechukwu declared.
He added that Bala had not resigned at any time from his position as Deputy National Chairman nor relinquished his leadership role through any legitimate process.
Resignation Letter Lacked Authenticity
According to the ADC, the alleged resignation letter lacked all official markers of credibility.
“The fraudulent document lacks the official party letterhead, emblems, or insignia. It represents a desperate attempt to create confusion and destabilise the party’s operations,” the statement said.
The party leadership reaffirmed that in line with the ADC constitution, any individual seeking to assume a leadership position must be a registered member for at least one year, be up-to-date with financial obligations, and follow due process in leadership transitions.
Okechukwu urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to disregard any unauthorised documentation and recognise only Bala’s leadership.
He also called on members nationwide to remain vigilant.
“We call on party members across the country to stay alert against misinformation campaigns designed to destabilise our future,” the statement read.
