Most of the time, no matter who was there in front of you, with determination, consistency, and hard work, you can surpass the mark left by your past (if any), setting new ones for those who come after you. Dominique Dawes, nicknamed Awesome Dawesome, changed the course of artistic gymnastics for members of her breed with world-class performances, which earned an international reputation.

She is a retired American artistic gymnast who was a national champion, a world champion, and a three-time Olympic medalist. Awesome Dawesome was part of the USA national team for 10 years, winning the title of senior national champion in the USA in 1994. After her national success, she joined the international team and was a member of the Magnificent Seven for winning gold at the Atlanta Olympics in 1996. The other members of the team are Shannon Miller, Jaycie Phelps, Dominique Moceanu, Amanda Borden, Amy Chow and Kerri Strug.

Dominique is undoubtedly a pioneer. She was the first black person of any nationality and gender to win an Olympic gold medal in gymnastics. His medal case contains four Olympic medals (gold in the 1996 team event, team bronzes in 1992 and 2000 and individual bronze on floor in 1996), four World Championship medals (silver on beam and uneven bars in 1993, silver in 1994 and a bronze beam in 1996).

In recognition of a successful career and many contributions to the world of gymnastics, Dominique Dawes, was inducted into the American Gymnastics Hall of Fame in 1998, the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame in 2009, and the Hall of Fame of American Olympic fame (alongside the Magnificent Seven) in 2008.

the biography

She was born Dominique Margaux Dawes on November 20, 1976, in Silver Spring, Maryland. She took her first steps in artistic gymnastics at the age of 6 when she signed up for classes and trained with Kelli Hill, who became her coach for her entire career.

Dominique attended Takoma Park High School, Montgomery County, Maryland, before going to Montgomery Blair High School in Silver Spring, Maryland, finishing at Gaithersburg High School in Gaithersburg, Maryland. She enrolled at the University of Maryland, College Park, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in communications in 2002.

After her Olympic days, she then explored a career in entertainment (appearing in commercials, music videos as well as modeling) and has since had numerous professional and philanthropic roles. She became co-chair of the President’s Council on Fitness, Sport and Nutrition in 2010 with Drew Brees. She became a television gymnastics commentator, advocate for young women in sports, is currently on the advisory board of Sesame Workshop. Healthy Habits for Life program and work as a motivational speaker, focusing on youth issues.

The family and husband of Dominique Dawes

Dominique was born to Loretta and Don Dawes alongside two siblings; his older sister, Danielle Dawes-Thompson, and his younger brother, Don Dawes, Jr., also an Olympian.

The Olympian is a married woman and a mother. She has proven herself to be an exceptional athlete but has not failed to amaze us with her skills when it comes to her wife and mother and could be certified Gold Medal Mom. Dominique is quick to talk about her wonderful family on her social media account, often providing fans with beautiful pictures and updates on the latest from her personal life. She also said that motherhood is more than double the work it takes to get to the Olympics, to compete and win, to have to raise your grandchildren, full of energy as in the nature of children.

Dominique Dawes got engaged to Jeff Thompson, a Catholic school teacher, in December 2012, and tying the knot a few months later on May 25, 2013. Their first child, a daughter, Kateri was born in March 2014. Their family has since grown in size with the latest addition, a twin, a girl and a boy Lincoln and Dakota born in January 2018. The twins are however predeceased by a daughter, Quinn, born in September 2015, making a total of 4 children .

Like their very athletic mother, Dominique’s older daughters are both interested in the sport in which she excels. Of course, she gave a nod to sign them up for classes and walk them through rehearsals. Perhaps the world should wait for a gymnast phenom, or even two, to appear in the near future as they hopefully continue in the course. In addition, her eldest child has her sights set on ballet and has already started taking dance lessons.

body measurement

Dominique Dawes follows a healthy lifestyle and also introduced her children to this. The mother and her daughters go for a walk in the morning or spend their time in a park where they train or run. What can we say? For a woman who has spent nearly two decades as an active athlete, you couldn’t expect less.

She may not be a giant but has proven her size. It certainly has nothing to do with success when tenacity, discipline and dedication take the lead. She is 1.57m tall and weighs 54kg. Her body is attractive and well sculpted. His body measurements, however, are not available.
