Born Kristen Carroll Wiig in Canandaigua, New York on August 22, 1973, the actress is the daughter of Jon Wiig and Laurie Johnston. Her father is of Norwegian and Irish descent while her mother is an artist of English and Scottish descent.
When she was three, her family moved to Lancaster, Pennsylvania, where she enrolled through eighth grade at Nitrauer Elementary School and later at Manheim Township Middle School. Ten years later, her family moved again to Rochester, New York. There she completed her ninth and tenth grades at the renowned Allendale Columbia School. She eventually graduated from Brighton High School.
Kristen continued her education at Roanoke College in Salem, Virginia, but not long after she went back to Rochester. She enrolled in community college and completed an outdoor living program that lasted three months. At the time, Kristen had no intention of becoming an actor or an entertainer.
