Neil deGrasse Tyson was born on October 5, 1958 in New York City. Raised in the Bronx, he attended public schools such as PS 36, PS 81, Riverdale Kingsbridge Academy, and the Bronx High School of Science.
As a student, Tyson was both academically and athletically gifted. He was part of his school’s wrestling team and was also the editor of the school’s physics journal. He became interested in astronomy at the age of nine after visiting the famous Hayden Planetarium in New York. He was so fascinated by the night sky print that he knew he had found his calling.
