BIOGRAPHY
Son of actor Timothy Spall – veteran of British cinema – Rafe Spall takes his first name from a character played by his father in the play The Knight of the Burning Pestle . One might believe that he was already, at the time, destined to follow in his father’s footsteps! Not very academic, he left school to train for the profession by joining the “National Youth Theater”, and began his career at the bottom of the ladder.

In 2004, he began a fruitful collaboration with Edgar Wright , who gave him a role in each of his crazy comedies: Shaun of the Dead (2005), Hot Fuzz (2007), the segment written by Wright for Grindhouse (id.), the crazy diptych by Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez and finally The World’s End (2013) where he finds the Pegg / Frost tandem .

On the small screen, he played for the first time with his father in A Room with a View , a drama broadcast on the ITV channel in 2006, then played recurring roles in the British series Desperate Romantics (2009), The Shadow Line ( 2011) and especially Pete Versus Life , where he plays the main character.

At the same time, young Rafe is determined to make a name for himself on the big screen, and thus plays supporting roles in films where he rubs shoulders with big names: Orlando Bloom in Calcium Kid (2004), Elijah Wood in Hooligans (2005), Russell Crowe in A Great Year (2006), Anne Hathaway in One Day (2011), etc.

A year later, he obtained his first major role in Anonymous , a controversial film by Roland Emmerich where he took on the costume of William Shakespeare, then fulfilled a childhood dream by reuniting with Ridley Scott for the needs of Prometheus . In 2013, he played the writer Yann Martel , author of the novel which inspired Ang Lee for his Odyssey of Pi , and joined Rose Byrne , Anna Faris and Simon Baker to take on the romantic comedy English Wedding .
