Biography of Toby Mac

Toby Mckeehen was born Kevin Micheal Mckeehen on October 22, 1964, in Fairfax, Virginia, he is best known by the stage name TobyMac. He attended Prime Elementary School and in fourth grade he attended Luther Jackson Intermediate for a few months. He also attended Liberty University, where he met Kevin Max and Micheal Tait. Toby discovered his love for music at an early stage in his life, especially since he enjoyed listening to everything from rap to hip-hop to rock.

The artist said he was inspired by Sting, an English singer-songwriter, whom he once saw leading his band with this song. The police in 1983 and that’s how Toby instantly fell in love with music. After graduating from high school, he decided to pursue music, which prompted him to search for like-minded people with whom he could share ideas and start a real musical career.

Career

TobyMac is a Christian and also a Christian hip-hop recording artist, music producer, songwriter and author. He was once a member of the Christian vocal trio dubbed DC Talk, which he formed with Kevin Max Smith and Micheal Taitin in 1987 while at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia. He was with them (the band – DC Talk) from 1987 to 2001 when they went on hiatus. The group produces great music together and releases many successful albums. TobyMac decided to start his career as a solo musician when the band took a break.

His first solo album was released on November 6, 2001 and was titled Élan and it was a success which was a good start for Toby who has since recorded about six hit albums. His first live album as a solo artist was called Alive and Transported. Most of his songs have been published in Christian and mainstream media. One of his songs titled Get This Party Started was used in an episode of the television series Roswell. TobyMac is the founder of the music label Gotee Records, which he created with Todd Collins and Joey Elwood. Together they produced some great songs.

TobyMac’s career has not been dull. He has won awards, including seven Grammies. He won a Grammy Award in 2009 for Best Evangelical Rock Album and in 2011 he won Top Christian Artist in the Billboard Music Awards as well as Best Christian Album. Also in 2002, he won the Favorite Contemporary Inspirational Artist award at the American Music Awards.

Family – wife, children

TobyMac is married to Amanda Levy Mckeehan. They married in 1994 and have five children together. Their first child was Truett Mckeehan and he was born on September 4, 1998. Truett was followed by twins – Moses and Marlee Mckeehan – adopted in 2002. Their fourth child was Leo, born on November 2, 2004, then the last born, Judah Mckeehan was born on March 24, 2006.

The twins, Moses and Marlee were adopted because after having their first son, Truett, the couple struggled to have another baby. So, at the end of a series of prayer exercises, they heard about a group of twins who needed a home. It was like the answer to Toby Mac and his family’s prayer. So they adopted the twins. Two years later, his wife, Amanda, is pregnant with their fourth child, Leo. After him, Judah also.
