Who Is Brett Kavanaugh, SCOTUS Judge Nominee Accused of Sexual Assault?
Brett Kavanaugh is the second justice, following the successful confirmation in April 2017, of Neil Gorsuch to be nominated by President Donald Trump to serve as an Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court during his tenure.
Kavanaugh is a graduate of Yale Law School. He served for a number of judges before working in the independent attorney’s office and then in the White House under the Bush administration. He later served as a judge on the US Court of Appeals for the DC Circuit, which he hopes to serve on the US Supreme Court, although his path to that position is blocked by sexual assaults by a number of women.

Kavanaugh was born on Brett Michael Kavanaugh12. February 1965 in Washington, DC but raised in Bethesda, Maryland. Due to his family’s strong religious beliefs, young Kavanaugh attended an all-boys Catholic school, Georgetown Preparatory School, which stands out as one of the most selective boarding schools in the United States. He got a place in the school thanks to his excellent academic performance and athletic ability.
After graduating from Georgetown Prep in 1983,Kavanaugh attended Yale University where he majored in history. While at Yale, he joined the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity and also played for the school’s junior basketball team after failing to cut the senior team. Kavanaugh also spent some time writing articles on various sports for the Yale Daily News before graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree with honors in 1987. However, he remained at the university for three more years in order to meet the requirements for a Juris doctorate, which he received in 1990.
Having already worked as a paralegal for a number, Brett Kavanaugh was admitted to the bar in Maryland the same year that he graduated, and was admitted to the bar in the District of Columbia two years later. In DC, Kavanaugh received a one-year fellowship with Ken Starr, the United States Attorney General. After his fellowship expired, he served as a clerk to Anthony Kennedy for a year before rejoining Starr.
In 2018, following the resignation of Justice Anthony Kennedy of the United States Supreme Court, Kavanaugh, who happened to be Kennedy’s former clerk, was appointed to replace him with President Donald Trump.

Brett Kavanaugh was clearly inspired to study law and become a lawyer by his parents; Everett Edward Kavanaugh Jr. and Martha Kavanaugh, who were both court officials in one way or another. His father, Everett Edward Kavanaugh, Jr., was an attorney and later president of the Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association, now known as the Personal Care Products Council. He was in this position for twenty years before moving on to other things.
Kavanaugh’s mother began life as a history teacher at a number of high schools in the ’60s and ’70s. In 1978 she received her law degree from Washington College of Law and began practicing law. Martha Kavanaugh rose to become an Assistant State Attorney in Montgomery County before becoming a Maryland State Circuit Court Judge in 1995. She served until 2001 when she retired.
Brett Kavanaugh is married to former President George W. Bush Personal Secretary Ashley Estes. The couple married in 2004 and have two daughters; Liza and Margaret Kavanaugh.
Facts about Brett Kavanaugh
While at Kikland & Ellis LLC, BrettKavanaugh authored two amicus briefs to the Supreme Court supporting the expression and conduct of religious activities in public places. However, in his time as a lawyer, he only argued one Supreme Court case, which he lost.
He was also the lead author of the Starr Report to Congress, which advocated the impeachment of President Bill Clinton following the Monica Lewinsky-Bill Clinton sex scandal.
Kavanaugh himself has been accused of hiring female employees based on appearance, with more than half of the employees he had being women. This became clear during his Senate hearing for the Supreme Court position, when some women alleged he sexually assaulted them when they were teenagers or in college. One of those women is Christine Blasey Ford of Palo Alto University, who Kavanaugh allegedly sexually assaulted her when she was 15. Another woman is former Yale University sophomore Deborah Ramirez.
